Police say white powder prompting response was corn starch

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - Police say a small bag of corn starch prompted an emergency response at a Connecticut high school.

Police and officers from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded when a bag of white powder was found Tuesday at Torrington High School. Students were told to hold in place while officials worked to identify the substance, which was later identified as corn starch.

Torrington Schools Superintendent Susan Lubomski says the incident caused minimal disruption to the school day and students were dismissed as regularly scheduled.
