Dominguez could become New Haven's first female police chief

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker has appointed Renee Dominguez as the city's police chief, which would make her the first woman to permanently lead the force. Dominguez has served as acting chief since March, following the retirement of Otoniel Reyes. Her appointment was announced Wednesday and must be approved by the city's Board of Alders. City and state officials believe Dominguez also would be the first female permanent chief in any of the state's largest cities. There have been several women who have led police departments in smaller cities and towns in Connecticut.
