Bethel hires special counsel in property assessment suit by Duracell

Berkshire Hathaway-owned Duracell has filed a lawsuit against Bethel in a dispute over the fair market and assessed values of their Berkshire Corporate Park property.  Bethel denied their appeal.  Now the town has hired Kari Olson as special counsel.  The suit claims the value “was grossly excessive, disproportionate and unlawful.”  A pretrial conference is scheduled for November 28th.  The Newstimes reports that the two sides are about 20-million dollars apart on property value.  According to the latest grand list, 14 Research Drive is valued at $60.9 million. The assessed value, a standard 70 percent of the fair market value, is $42.6 million.
